When marketing your small business there are oodles of tools available to assist. Sorting through them all can be inundating. Ignoring the most obvious online accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Email) and dive straight into the six online accounts that I can’t live without.
- Hootsuite: One of the many tools available, allowing you to manage your social media profiles from one place. Hootsuite is a must have because not only can you manage everything using a single platform but you can also schedule messages, collaborate as a team, monitor your mentions, integrate your RSS feed, and analyze it all right from within the console. And with this week’s new release, you can now manage your Facebook Groups and Events, plus photo uploading direct to Facebook.
- Google Analytics: Measuring your marketing efforts is crucial; you need to know how people are getting to your website and what they are doing while they are there. Google Analytics is a FREE tool that gives great insight into your web traffic and ad campaigns.
- Evernote: I’m a post-it note kind of gal, or at least I use to be before I discovered Evernote. This electronic note taking allows you to organize your notes from your phone, computer, or anyplace with internet access. You can type notes, snap photos, or clip things from the web.
- RSS Reader: Staying abreast of topics that affect your industry and customers is important. Clicking around the web to read news can be time consuming. Using an RSS reader you can aggregate your favorite sites in a single place and receive notifications of updates.
- Crowdbooster: Currently still in Beta and by invitation only Crowdbooster is an awesome tool to measure and enhance your social media efforts. From their site “Crowdbooster measures how well you are performing on Twitter and Facebook and provides insights that make you more effective.” With features like tweet level insights, follower recommendations, tweet schedule suggestions, multi-account support, and more. - Klout: This tool “measures influence based on your ability to drive action.” It pulls data from your Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Foursquare and other social media profiles to determine “How many people you influence, how much you influence them, and how influential they are.” I’m still fairly new to Klout and at this point I think there are still some challenges with their scoring algorithm what I do find valuable are the “topics” and “Klout style”. I look at the topics I am influential about to evaluate how consistent my content is that I am sharing on the web. I also look at my Klout style as a way to evaluate my social media voice as it compares to my goals.
