“You can do it all, and do it all well, but you can’t do it all on the same day…focus on prioritizing and not balance.”
Although I can’t recall who actually said this to me, I am very thankful that they did. I am a wife, mother/step-mother of 4, an entrepreneur, a minority owner in a custom compression brace company, a full-time employee, and the Founding Executive Director for a women’s professional network, in addition to maintaining a very healthy social life. I therefore often get asked “how do you do it all?” My secret isn’t really a secret, it is simply understanding that I have to prioritize my time and focus on the area(s) that need me most on that day while ensuring that nothing gets neglected.
Yes, this takes organization. Yes, you have to get past the guilt of missing out on some things some times. Yes, it takes time and practice to make it all look easy. Yes, there are sometimes I don’t get enough sleep (although most days I get at least 6 hours). Yes, sometimes my husband gives me the “go sit down” look. But when you prioritize what is most important and moves you closest to your goals at that moment and do those things you really can do it all.
Just remember, when you try to balance eventually something (or everything) will fall but when you prioritize the right things get done at the right times and you continue to grow and prosper.
